Established in 1983, Barkhetri College is the first pioneering institution of higher education in the vast Barkhetri region, which includes the major river islands of Kalar Char, Bhangnamari, and Kurihamari. The college came into existence through the collective efforts of numerous well-wishers and devoted individuals who contributed their time and labor selflessly. Due to its distinctive geographical location, the college enrolls a significant number of students every year. The campus is spread over a large area and features a spacious fish pond, a vast playground, and a forest garden rich in diverse plant and animal species, providing ample opportunities for research and exploration. The institution comprises 16 academic departments and is supported by a team of highly qualified faculty members. In 2020, the Science stream was introduced and provincialized, offering a wide range of basic and pure science courses.
